IIRC even in the Datsun race car I think we would get 3-4 mpg at auto X events. And 25 on the way home.

Its that low coz I was idling the car between runs with the AC on (which turns on the radiator fans) to lower coolant and oil temps

This reminds me of an article from one of the car magazines, Motor Trend, Car & Driver...etc. w as running a Ram SRT-10 on Laguna Seca for some reason. They were getting under a gallon per lap. Something like 1.7 MPG around the course.
